Eucalyptus wood treatment and leaching behavior of CCB (Chromated Copper Borate): a field test in Brazilian Midwest

چکیده

The use of Chromated Copper Borate (CCB) for wood treatment is known with several studies on a laboratory scale. However, there lack field to analyze the effect CCB over time. This study aimed evaluate properties Eucalyptus urophylla S.T. Blake x grandis W. Mill ex Maiden (called E. urograndis), treated as well leaching chromium, copper and bore (Cr/Cu/B) in test. experiment, untreated (no application), was installed 2016 remained until 2018. Wood physico-mechanical were evaluated each condition (treated untreated) at three different time: 0, 1 2 years exposure. elements losses (leaching) determined by difference quantification element retained (retention), from year 0 (amount original elements) relation preservative urograndis efficient maintain its physical mechanical (mass loss, basic density, rupture elasticity modulus) during without showed reductions physical-mechanical properties, indicating their low natural durability. High (close 100%) boron observed. In addition, total retention has not changed (statistically) after years.

Leaching of chromated copper arsenate wood preservatives: a review.

Recent studies have generated conflicting data regarding the bioaccumulation and toxicity of leachates from preservative-treated wood. Due to the scale of the wood preserving industry, timber treated with the most common preservative, chromated copper arsenate (CCA), may form a significant source of metals in the aquatic environment. The existing literature on leaching of CCA is reviewed, and t...

Copper Leaching from Copper-ethanolamine Treated Wood: Comparison of Field Test Studies and Laboratory Standard Procedures

Copper-based compounds are some of the most important biocides for the protection of wood in heavy duty applications. In the past, copper was combined with chromium compounds to reduce copper leaching, but a recent generation of copper-based preservatives uses ethanolamine as a fixative. To elucidate the leaching of copper biocides from wood, Norway spruce (Picea abies) wood was treated with a ...

Impact of chromated copper arsenate (CCA) in wood mulch.

The production of landscape mulch is a major market for the recycling of yard trash and waste wood. When wood recovered from construction and demolition (C&D) debris is used as mulch, it sometimes contains chromated copper arsenate (CCA)-treated wood. The presence of CCA-treated wood may cause some potential environmental problems as a result of the chromium, copper, and arsenic present. Resear...

Effect of Weathering on Chromated Copper Arsenate (CCA) Treated Wood: Leaching of Metal Salts and Change in Water Repellency

Wood pressure-treated with chromated copper arsenate (CCA) wood preservative is commonly used for outdoor construction. Oxides of arsenic, copper, and chromium are bound in the wood by a complex series of chemical reactions, but a small percentage of these compounds are gradually released by leaching and weathering. Recent studies suggest that the release of these compounds can be minimized by ...

Characteristics of chromated copper arsenate-treated wood ash.

The combustion of recovered wood from construction and demolition waste as biomass fuel is a common practice. When chromated copper arsenate (CCA)-treated wood is present as part of the wood fuel mix, concentrations of arsenic, chromium, and copper become elevated in the ash. The objectives of this study were to estimate the fraction of CCA-treated wood needed to cause the ash to fail regulator...
